Introduction.
In this assignment I will be writing about the ‘corporate social responsibility’ that my two
chosen businesses have. My chosen businesses are the massive international fast-food
chain, McDonalds, and the British luxury retailer chain Marks & Spencer (M&S).
What is CSR.
CSR stands for ‘corporate social responsibility’, CSR is the social responsibility that big
businesses have. This responsibility includes integrating social and environmental concerns
in their operations. Some examples of businesses having good CSR are Adidas which is
currently using recycled plastics to make high-performance sportswear, IKEA is starting to
use more sustainable materials in their products such as sustainable cotton, wool, and
wood, they are also funding programmes that are focused on climate change, renewable
energy, and employment.
CSR areas.
The four main types of CSR are environmental, ethical, philanthropic, and economic
responsibilities. The first type of CSR, environmental focuses on the environment and is
used by businesses to protect and improve the local environments, an example of
environmental responsibility is a fast-food business using paper straws instead of plastic
straws.
The second type of CSR is ethical, ethical responsibility focuses on engaging in good business
practices across the board, this can mean that businesses are supporting their employees,
