Book report ´They both die at the end
introduction
For the book report I read the book called ´They both die at the end´. It is written by Adam Silvera. I
choose to read this specific book because, I gave it to my friend Charlotte for her birthday. She really
enjoyed the book and advised me to read it once she was finished. Despite that being half a year ago,
I decided that for this project I could finally read it. She did say that it would be quite emotional and
that I needed to read it carefully. I decided to give it a try and read this book for the report.

Title
The title of the book is they both die at the end. It is called this because they actually both die at the
end of the book. The whole book you have hope that they both will make it out alive, but sadly they
don’t. it is a really nice title, but it kind off already spoils the end of the book. Which also gets you to
think about the title more while reading the book. During the book the writer does the build up so
good which makes you wonder if they will both make it out alive. Therefore, the end is even sadder
and better.

Plot
Exposition

At the start of the book, you get explained that they live in our world but there is one difference,
Death Cast. Death cast is a telephone line in which you will get a call around midnight telling you will
die today. If you are a person who got the call you are called a Decker. Mateo and rufus, the main
characters, both got the call. Mateo was in his room playing a video game, while Rufus was with his
friends beating up the new boyfriend of his ex-girlfriend. This is also the conflict. As you read further
you get introduced to the personal situation of the characters. Mateo’s dad is in the hospital in a
comma, and rufus and his friends are orphans. Through the second chapter you get introduced to an
app called The Last Friend. It´s created for Deckers to make a last friend so they don’t have to go
through their end-day alone. Mateo and Rufus both want a last friend, so they both apply to the app.
Eventually come across each other’s profile. They start to talk and decide to meetup. Mateo being
the shy guy that he is, is very scared about dying before he can say goodbye to his dad, even though
he is in a coma. The exposition is thus them meeting each other on the app and meeting in real life.
At first, it’s a bit awkward but they soon start telling each other about their lives and to-do lists for
their last day. Mateo wants to say goodbye to his dad and to his best friend, Lidia. Rufus on the other
hand wants to say goodbye to his ex-girlfriend, Aimee and his friends. They all live together and call
themselves, The Plutos. During the chapter they say goodbye to Mateo’s dad and Lidia, who doesn’t
take the news that well. As Mateo helped raise her child when he had some spare time. Rufus shows
Mateo some of his favourite places of the city and tells him about his friends.

Rising action
The Rising action starts when Mateo and Rufus go to the graveyard to say goodbye to Mateo’s mom,
who already died and Rufus’s family who also already died. After that they go to a place made for
Deckers to experience things like, swimming with sharks and cliff jumping. When in reality it’s just
