Pies regarding life stages
Kim Kardashian West
Born: 21st October 1980
Conception
According to Dr Miriam Stoppard, fertilization occurs when a sperm meets and
penetrates an ovum. All human cells contain 46 chromosomes, threadlike structures
that carry their genetic information. The exception to the rule are sperm and ova,
which have only 23 chromosomes, so that when they meet, the single fertilized cell
that results has the full 46 chromosomes. The new cell (zygote) splits first into two
identical cells, each with 46 chromosomes, and continues to divide slowly as it
travels down the fallopian tube, until it reaches the uterus. It is now called a
blastocyst or blastula, and is a hollow clump of about 100 cells.
Pregnancy (40 weeks)
Physical - The more weeks that Kim was pregnant for, the more that her stomach
expanded, this was due to the fact that the foetus was getting larger and the uterus
was expanding. During pregnancy, Kim's breasts also grew, this was because her
body started to produce milk to provide food for the baby for when it was born.
Another physical change that Kim experienced during pregnancy was that she
stopped menstruating. This is because the ovaries stop producing ova's to stop
sperm fertilising anymore ova's. Towards the end of pregnancy, she experienced
heartburn, this was due to the fact that the baby was pushing up the stomach so
food could not be digested properly and got pushed back up the oesophagus. Lastly,
Kim experienced swelling of the feet because there is more weight for the body to
carry, so there is more water attention to the feet.
Intellectual - In the last 11 weeks of pregnancy, Kim left employment on maternity
leave and was allowed to stay on it for a maximum of 51 weeks. This stopped her
from going to work and using everyday skills which had to be developed when she
got back to work after maternity leave. She also had to reconsider lifestyle choices
when finding out she was pregnant, she may have given up smoking, drinking, and
she would be eating better and may have also developed a sense of responsibility.
Emotional - During pregnancy, Kim often experienced mood swings. When being
pregnant the hormone balance change and a woman will usually end up extremely
tired or even fed up that their bodies are changing. Kim also experienced being
fearful throughout the first trimester of the pregnancy as it is most common for a
miscarriage to occur.
Social - During the pregnancy but mainly towards the end of it, Kim didn't go out with
her friends and socialise as much as she was preparing for her baby. She also found
it difficult at times to go out or do everyday tasks as she was in a lot of pain and
discomfort. Her circle of friends also changed during pregnancy people she had
previously seen went drinking or smoked a lot. She had to remove herself from these
situations because she had to reconsider her lifestyle choices, so she became more
distant from her previous circle of friends. If she hadn't have done this then she may
have ran the risk of losing the baby with a stillbirth or it being premature and having a
low birth rate.
Infancy (0-3 years)
Physical - By 3 months Kim could lift the head and chest supported by her elbows,
forearms and hands. By this age she could also hold things properly if they were
