Paper 1
Possible Text Types: Op-Ed, Extracts of a comic, News articles, Advertisements, Infographics.
Some text types have their own terminology
I.E. Comics
- Splash
- Panel
- Emanata
- Bleed
- Gutter
Regardless of the text, paper 1 requires you to analyze both literary and non-literary features
of an unseen text. If there is an image of some kind in an Op-Ed, you will have to analyze that
too, even if it seems like it is there just for design.
There are two kinds of texts:
Mundane texts:
To me, these are very boring texts because they don’t connect with big societal topics such as
gender, sustainability, culture, etc. These texts could be talking about someone's
accomplishments or food they enjoyed in a random restaurant.
For these texts, don’t try to connect them with a big societal topic. Focus on the text’s purpose
or the small things like “the importance of accomplishments.” How does it utilize literary &
stylistic devices (i.e.) to get others to try out a particular meal from Norway?
“Packed” texts:
These texts do include a connection to some social phenomenon or controversy. Ex → Albany
life insurance
