,Camera Formats.
Digital Cameras are cameras which are very similar to film cameras, but instead of using film they have a s
which when the shutter goes off, the focusing screen will lift up, making space for the light to travel throu
and hit the sensor to then get our picture. Phone cameras don’t take pictures the same way. Phone camer
instead don’t have the focusing screen, so instead of seeing what the camera is seeing directly through yo
eyes, you are seeing it through a screen first.
Advantages of Digital cameras: The viewfinder, better quality of picture, the extent of exposure, camera
settings you can change manually, longer life on battery, larger lens, better sensor, bigger aperture,
interchangeable lenses and a better variety of accessories.
Disadvantages of digital cameras: Bigger and more bulky than a phone so not as easy for when on the mov
louder than a phone meaning that it could become a distraction and ruin a picture.
Advantages of phone cameras: a lot more portable, smaller and quieter, quicker and simpler to put back-u
pictures onto the cloud, available all the time (you’re never really without your phone), can edit pictures o
device rather than having to export then from an SD card, and quicker to post online.
Disadvantages of phone cameras: not as good quality images, not as many settings to focus and get a bett
picture, short battery life (you use your phone for more than a camera), not many accessories, only one le
(can’t get a fisheye lens or telephoto lens for a phone).

, Lenses
• Standard lens (55mm)- the lens that comes with the camera, doesn’t magnify or give any wide angles. T
means that it creates a picture similar to what you see. It rarely causes any distortion of images too.
• Telephoto (300mm)- Has a longer focal length than other lenses, but gives a magnified image and a thin
field of view. Mainly used for when you can’t get close to the subject you are trying to photograph. Prov
contrast too.
• Fish-eye (5.2mm)- A lens which gives a super wide angle, can take a picture of a 180° radius. However it
causes perspective distortion.
• Wide angle (24mm)- A lens which has a shorter focal length than the standard lens, and has broader fie
view. Means that there is a larger area that the picture covers but items look smaller. These are mainly
for cityscapes, landscapes, and architecture. But you have to be quite close.
• Macro (100mm)- This is a lens which is made for taking pictures at a really small distance from the subj
mainly used for close-up pictures, or for getting clear pictures of tiny things like insects.
