This piece of work is a guidance for the P4,M3 and D3 Unit 5 - you can use it to have an idea of what to talk about in your own assignment. My teacher has signed this off - so it does meet the grading criteria - Distinction overall for this Unit.

P4, M3 - report on the ethical and moral issues related to scientic
developments and discuss how the ethical and moral issues related to
scientic developments will afect societ d
When we say moral issues, we mean what is seen to be right and what is seen to be wrong when we
look at the human behaviour. In this assignment I will report on the ethical and moral issues in the
genetc engineering and stem cell research afects the society.
One of the main negatves from the scientic researches carried out have been due to the
Thalidomide drug, it was designed to treat morning sickness in pregnant women, however, when the
children were born, they had many birth defects meaning that they had some serious health issues.
The drug was then banned due to the moral and ethical issues of having children being born with
serious health issues. The society was afected by the drug because a lot of children were born with
issues meaning that the drug has afected not only the lives of the child but also their parents,
families and also their future lives of whether they are going to survive or die at the rather young
age. The children had very weak immune systems meaning that they were under the risk of getng
sick and then die.
Another example, it is the nuclear power. There are stll limitatons to the nuclear power weapons
because there is some miscommunicaton between the scientsts who are using the resources and
developing diferent weapons and those who are intended to use it. There are also limitatons due to
the risks of the scientsts doing something wrong when they are testng their formatons. This is seen
as moral and ethical issues because the society has been afected in the negatve way, this means
that if the nuclear power gets into the wrong hands of the people, they are most likely to use it in a
wrong way. For example, there are many wars caused because of the availability of the weapons
which are mainly used in a negatve way. There are countries which don’t use the weapons in the
negatve way, but instead they use it for protecton against other countries. In this case it is wrong to
kill those who don’t have the same power as you. It is also wrong to harm anyone; this is why the
nuclear power is seen in a negatve way. Can also cause polluton and make the air conditon
become even worse than it was before.
