Unit 3 - Using Social Media In Business
- Assignment 1 - Learning aim A
Ways In Which Businesses Can Use Social Media To Promote
Products And Services
, 1 - One way a business can use social media is to advertise and promote their products and services. This is useful to a
business as it allows them to make their products and services become well known and make users aware of them in the
hope of them buying the products and services and making sales.
Another way is to communicate with customers . This is useful to businesses as it allows them to stay in touch with their
customers through the use of Direct Messages (DM’s) on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or even through their own app or
website. Furthermore, communication on social media does not have to be one-to-one, it can be a conversation with a
wide set of their customers, which allows the business to somewhat cut costs as there is no need to pay for market research
by phoning customers, instead they can run polls to find out customers opinions.
Customer service can also be used on social media. This is because businesses can see customers complaints which they can
tend to quickly thus making the customers feel valued. Business can also use social media to create a brand image. This is
by using certain colours that match the logo of the brand (the same house style) or perhaps by posting information on their
social media sites letting users know who they are and what they sell etc., what they aim to do and how.
Finally, businesses can post engaging content on their social media sites through different types of format such as videos,
GIF’s or images for example. This is useful as it can be shared across all forms of social media as it may become viral and
engage customers and other users of the social site and may entice them to become interested in the business.
, 2 - Businesses can use social media platforms/sites in many ways, one of which being to advertise and promote products.
Businesses can do this by tweeting on Twitter or posting something onto Facebook, making their customers and potential
customers more aware of the products and why they should buy it. By advertising on social media, it allows them to gain a
following and a set of customers who like and buy their products.
This then causes the customers/social media users to then perhaps tell their friends and family about the business and in
turn allow the business to gain awareness and to increase awareness around their products creating an online community
of followers.
This can also be done by allowing the businesses customers to like, share, comment etc on their social media pages.
Furthermore, businesses can use social media to describe their businesses to their customers. This is by posting facts on
their social media accounts or engaging with customers queries telling them about their products and their brand in
general.
3/A.P1 Explain the different ways in which a business can use social media
3 - Social media is a great way to interact with customers about new products or services as well as notifying customers on
upcoming sales or voucher codes that can be used.
Furthermore, social media allows the business to put out polls to customers and get their thoughts on new and existing
products (product feedback) allowing the business to improve that particular product and to please customers, it also
allows the business to cut costs as there is no need to spend money on market research as the research is done online via a
poll and not going door-to-door or phoning customers up which then can be used to promote tweets on Twitter again
increasing the business and its products.
Adidas interact with their customers primarily through Twitter. They also communicate with their customers via DM’S as
well. Furthermore, they also interact with customers via their app

included to support explanation)
4 - Businesses can use social media to interact and resolve customer queries. This is a form of communication that is quick,
easy and simple for customers and means they don’t have to phone customer services or come into store which makes it
more convenient for the customer. Customers can contact the business on social media through tweeting them or @ing
them publicly DM’s on Twitter and Instagram and post comments on Facebook posts.
