hump, thin skin, bone pain, muscle atrophy, hyperglycemia
Type 1 and 2 osteoporosis - Type 1- associated with menopause
Type 2- associated with decreased bone formation due to aging
RF for osteoporosis - Low body weight, female, advanced age, caucasian, bilateral oophorectomy before
menopause, steroid use, poor nutrition, substance abuse, sedentary, family hx
Prevention of osteoporosis - exercise, Ca and vit D supplementation, estrogen replacement therapy

S/S of osteoporosis - spinal curvature, loss of height, vertebral collapse, fractures

AE: dysphagia, esophageal ulcer.
Nursing: take 1st thing in the morning w/o food, 8oz of water, remain upright for 30mins after taking
Hyperthyroidism hormone levels - high T3 and T4, low TSH
Graves disease - autoimmune disorder
S/S: goiter, exophthalmos, pretibial myxedema
S/S of thyroid storm - hyperthermia, HTN, delirium, hyperglycemia, tachydysrhythmias
S/S of hyperthyroidism - increased appetite, weight loss, diarrhea, heat intolerance, insomnia,
amenorrhea, palpitations, sweat, vision changes, mood swings
teaching for radioactive iodine therapy - May result in hypothyroidism, monitor for tachycardia, avoid
contamination with laundry/toilets
Hypothyroidism hormone levels - High TSH, low T3 and T4
Myxedema coma - S/S; hypothermia, edema, impaired cognition
Focus: maintain airway, fluid, CV status

S/S of hypothyroidism - Weight gain, cold intolerance, constipation, joint pain/muscle weakness,
