Vocational Scenario or Bradford Properties is a small firm of estate agents. The
Context agency operates a number of functions such as Property
Valuation, Property Viewing, Property Sales and Marketing.
At present, the company still use the legacy systems in
keeping all the business data at each section – some data are
still kept on paper-based files and some are on computers
using Spreadsheets. The ‘flat file’ systems had worked to a
lager extent for a long while in the past as they were only
handling a small amount of properties and customers.
However, a number of problems have arisen with a rapid
growing of the business: customers often complaint about
giving same information many times; mess up the
appointment times and locations; Agents also frustrated about
duplicating data and sometimes did not get most updated
information in time; managers find hard to produce any report
quickly and accurately as they have to compile information
from various sources. To overcome the problems, the
company has decided to upgrade their current systems with
computerised database systems. To make the transition
smoothly, the company would like to start with Property
Viewing System as a pilot.
Property Viewing. When a potential buyer makes a request for
viewing, the request will be recorded and a viewing schedule
has to be made with the seller by an agent. The subsequent
viewing result such as the client’s comments or intentions
must be recorded including cancellation or changing the
viewing schedule.
