What is anger A modified form of stress inoculation and CBT. Is used in order to reduce aggression in violent
management individuals by teaching them positive strategies in order to reduce aggression.
What are the 1. Cognitive restructuring – in order to change the offenders view of communications and
aims of AM expressions of emotions.
2. Regulation of arousal – to prevent them from becoming angry.
3. Behavioural skills training – teaching new coping strategies in order to deal with
stressors and challenging social interactions.
Example of AM - The CALM program – controlling aggression by learning to manage it
- Used within prisons in order to reduce the aggression of offenders.
- Is conducted in a group environment as a condition of offender’s sentence.
- The offenders have to attend 24 session (2 times a week) over a 12-week period.
- Homework is given to the offenders to complete after each session
