Anne Frank
Annelies Marie Frank or better known as Anne Frank was a young
Jewish girl born on June 12, 1929, in Frankfurt, Germany. She lived
with her parents, Otto and Edith, and also her older sister Margot.
In 1933 Adolf Hitler was appointed the leader of Germany and was
part of the Nazi political party. Anne’s father was one of the first to
flee. Not soon after he left, the rest of his family joined him. Anne
was the last to arrive in February 1934, after staying with her
grandparents. In 1939 Germany invaded Poland and World War 2
started. On 10 May 1940 Germany invaded the Nederland’s. All the
Jews had to register with the Germans and was not allowed to have
anything.
After everything got worse for the Frank family they decided to go
into hiding. They all had to wear their clothes in layers because
walking with a suitcase would be too suspicious. Anne’s father
prepared a secret hideout at his workplace called the secret Annex.
The hideout was small and consisted of two floors and an attic,
where they stored their food. They had to be very quiet so nobody
would hear them. This meant no talking, walking around or flushing
the toilets during the daytime. As time went on, other people also
moved in. The Annex was cramped with people. Their clothes were
wearing out and there was a shortage of food.
Since Anne was little, she always wanted to be a professional
journalist when she grew up. She passed most of her time by writing
in her diary, writing short stories and compiled a book of all her
favorite quotes. During her hiding there was many people in a small
space, and it pushed Anne to start writing a lot more. It gave her a
way to release all of her feelings as she once said herself; “the nicest
part is being able to write down all my thoughts and feelings.
Otherwise, I’d absolutely suffocate”.
