circuleert door de placenta om aan deze behoeften te voldoen. De foetale circulatie verschilt van de
circulatie bij volwassenen doordat het bloed zuurstof krijgt in de placenta en niet in de longen.
Hiervoor is nodig:
- Grotere en talrijkere erytrocyten (6 tot 7 miljoen/mm3 )
- Hoger hemoglobinegehalte (20,7 g/dL) om de maximale hoeveelheid zuurstof op te nemen
- Gewijzigde vorm van hemoglobine (HbF), die actief is in het iets zuurdere bloed
- Extra foetale structuren
