Unit 11 P1 P2 Health and Social Care BTEC EXTENDED DIPLOMA
P1 – Describe forms of abuse which may be experienced by adults:
P2 – Describe indicators that abuse may be happening to adults:
In this assignment I will describe diferent forms of abuse and indicators which may be
happening to adults.
One of the main typical types of abuse is the physical abuse; this is when there is an
intentional physical contact with the person which causes injury. This is the type of physical
contact which is directed at causing harm.
The indicators to the physical abuse and self-harm could be things like unexplained injuries;
this could involve factures, bruising, burns, scalds, scars malnourishment. These are very
clear indicators of the physical abuse which someone can undergo. The indicators of the
physical abuse are usually physical indicators which are the ones which suggest that there
has been physical abuse happening. For example, if the individual has scars this could
suggest that they’ve been in contact with sharp objects which then leads to a conclusion
that someone must have hurt them. Other unexplainable injuries like broken hips or limbs
could also suggest that the individual has been physically hurt. Other indicators like poor
hygiene could also mean that the adult has been maltreated or physically abused.
Another type of abuse which may be happening to adults and young adults is the emotional
or psychological abuse. This is usually the type of abuse which the individuals come across
and their emotional state is damaged. For example, if they have done something wrong they
might start crying because from the past experiences they’ve been emotionally abused so
they might have fear of being emotionally or psychologically abused again. This could
involve things like, getng shouted at by parents for doing things wrong, especially with
adults, they tend to get very weak when it comes to emotions which suggests that they are
very vulnerable which means that they might be afected by their childhood and how their
parents might’ve been afecting them.
Indicators to the emotional or psychological abuse this could involve things like disclosure
which suggests that the individual has been treated wrong. There is an idea that they
must’ve been abuse which caused that disclosure. It suggests that if the individual has been
emotionally hurt, they are not going to want to come into contact with someone who
damages the emotions of the individual. This ofen happens in adults, where the parents
might’ve hurt emotions of the individual in their childhood experiences. Other typical
indicators could be depression or being upset. There are also other things like crying or fear
when the individual comes in contact with certain situations. This most ofen happens in
adults, it afects their emotional state which means that if they come in contact with things
they’ve did in the past, and they are most likely to feel negative emotions even if they do
something which is very small. They are still going to get frustrated and disappointed with
