Roles and Responsibilites of the health and social care workers in the
improving quality of health care services:
Person-centred approach: The principles of care are based on the ‘Human Rights Act, it is important
that the individual who gets the service receives all of these human rights and that he/she is treated
right. It is important to make sure that the carer doesn’t infuence the dignity or choice of the
individual in the negatve way. It is also important to ensure that the carers respect the person in the
care home and that their privacy is kept private, as well as their rights must be kept on top of the
things.

It is important to respect the culture of the individual as not everyone is going to have the same
culture and it is important to stop any acts of discriminaton. ne of the other obligatons of the
carer is to see the person frst and the dementa second. This means that it is important to look afer
the individual with dementa in the way that it doesn’t seem like they have dementa, almost
ignoring the fact that they have dementa and that they are just like everyone else. It is important
that the carers focus on the strengths and abilites of the individual as it is something that could
make them feel beter about themselves. It might infuence their self-confdence if the carer will
always point out the things they do wrong. It is important that the carer takes into account any
preferred relatonships that the patent/person with dementa might have, such as, if they have
grandchildren and they can’t see them as ofen, it is okay to sometmes ‘pretend’ that the carer is
someone close to them as it could make their day and they won’t feel as lonely.

It is important that when the carer is talking to the person with dementa an appropriate
communicaton is delivered, some of people might not understand what the carer is saying so it is
important to break the words down and simplify if they struggle with understanding something. Its
the best idea to act in the best interest of the individual, it might make them happier than they are.
That is important to ensure that the individual isn’t lonely and that they enjoy their tme in the care
home. Some of the carers would need to provide person-to-person relatonships where the
individual with dementa could tell the carer whatever they want and the carer would listen and
won’t judge.

As a carer it is important to involve the individual in the care planning as it will show them that
you’re taking into account their opinion and that they have something to be engaged in. This could
ensure that they receive the best care possible involved in their interest. It is important to take into
account the history, such as personal, family, medical issues; there is a chance that they wouldn’t
want to talk about it as they might experience traumatc experience or negatve thoughts with it.
The carer has to be interested to engage with the individual (or at least act as they are) this is known
as the holistc approach.

The carer must provide responsive and fexible approach where if the patent/person with the
dementa has an issue you will need to be able to approach them any tme they have a problem. You
have to also reply with a positve aspect to it and try to link the two in a positve way. It is important
to involve the family and friends (If the patent is willing to talk about it), however, it is also
important to respect the individual’s personal beliefs and interact with them as much as possible.
The communicaton between the carer and the person with dementa must be efectve and that the
individual with dementa knows what the carer is talking about.
