UNIT 5

P.2: explain the skills and personal attributes necessary for professionals who care for
individuals with different needs.
Skills is the ability to do something well or to be an expert in something. Skills vary in many types of
things such as job skills or life skills. A job skill can be teamwork skills- meaning you work efficiently with
other people. An example of a personal skill is to know how to play the piano efficiently. Lastly, a life skill
is communication skills as you spend your whole life socializing with others.

Attributes are the qualities or characteristics that make an individual who they are. Attributes vary from
personal attributes to job attributes. An example of a personal attribute is someone being very honest.
An example of a job attribute is someone's maturity levels as an interviewer will look to see if they are
mature enough for the role of the job.

In this assignment I will identify and explain the skills and personal attributes necessary for professionals
who care for Valarie and Tremayne. I will then identify and explain the communication and observation
skills which can be used to support them and how each skill will help overcome difficult situations for
Valarie and Tremayne.

When providing care and treatment for Tremayne and Valarie's needs – careers use the 6 C’s which are
six valves or behaviors which are felt to be essential when providing care. It was launched in 2012 after
the nation's wife concern about the standard of nursing care after the failings at mid Staffordshire.

Compassion is the awareness of the needs of Valarie and having a desire to help. This is relevant to
Valarie for her care and need as it will make her feel valued that someone is aware of her issues. As she
does not have a job, she is less likely to socialize, meaning all her problems have burdened her, she has
no one to speak to and she needs some compassion. This shows how important it is for Valarie as she
will feel less pressure due to having a professional such as a therapist, to open to and she would be
confident in the fact that it is all confidential. Being compassionate would help overcome demanding
situations for Valarie as she would have the therapist to speak to about her issues as well as being able
to attain advice and help from them. For example, the therapist will have compassion for Valarie as they
will know Valarie has been through a lot and will offer her advice that will help her mental health as well
as overcome this burden, due to the desire they feel. This can be done by speaking to the Valarie about
how she feels as well as making Valarie exercise as exercising is seen to improve people's mental health.

Competence is having the ability to understand needs by using your knowledge and expertise. This is
relevant to Valarie's care and need as the professional will be able to understand her situation and
would not need to question Valarie on stuff which she may not be willing to talk about such as her being
bullied by the local teenagers. Valarie may not want to talk about it, but we are aware that therefore
she still does not want to leave the hospital. This shows how important it is for Valarie as she will feel
secure, knowing that there are concerns about Valarie which can be left unsaid, but the professional is
still to be aware of it. Being competent towards Valarie would help her overcome difficult situations as
she would not have to explain herself as the professional already understands and would be able to help
her. The professional can help her by getting her a new flat in a different environment where there
aren't any teenagers there to pester her.

, Commitment is the determination to improve care for Valaire. This is relevant to Valarie's care and need
as you would want to make Valarie lose weight due to her being obese. This shows how important it is
to Valarie as she will feel valued that there is someone doing the most they can, and her opinions could
change once she sees the determination to make Valarie the best version of herself. Being committed to
Valarie will help her overcome difficult situations as she will have someone to rely on the days when she
can't rely on herself. For example, praising Valarie for reaching the milestones set would show
commitment and the determination to improve care for her as she would feel happy when receiving
these compliments and want to do better.

Courage is to use personal strength and vision to do the right thing for people. This is relevant to
Tremayne's care and need as the professional will be aware of his gluten allergy and will need courage
to tell him to stop eating the pizzas which are making him ill. This shows how important it is towards
Tremayne to be able to see the courage and will opt for other foods that can make him feel better.
Being courageous towards Tremayne will help him overcome difficult situations as he will get the help
and support from the professional and he will be able to try gluten free foods to expand on what he
likes.

Communication is the exchange of information. this is relevant to Tremaine's care and need as due to
his autism, communication might be hard for him to understand, however by communicating in a way
where he would understand- he will be able to understand that taking off his cast is wrong for him as it's
there to heal him. This shows how important it is towards Tremayne as he will finally understand how
important the cast is for him and he will not feel the need to take it off. Communicating with Tremayne
will help him overcome difficult situations as when you are speaking to him, he will be more aware and
understanding- as well as this he will be able to give his own input on how he feels about the plans that
are set for him.

Care is to look after Tremayne and to provide for his needs. This is relevant to Tremayne's care and
needs as he needs to be looked after. However, due to him living alone, the professional would not want
to make him feel as though his independence had been taken from him. this shows how important it is
towards Tremayne as he will be able to get all the support he needs- for example walking him to the
toilet, however in some situations where he is able to do it himself, the professional must allow him to
do it so that he does not feel that way. caring for Tremayne will help him overcome difficult situations as
he will feel glad there is someone there to support him and is respecting his Independance by not taking
over completely.

One skill that can be used when providing care for Valarie is teamwork. Teamwork is collaborative effort
of a group to achieve a common goal. This is important for Valarie's care as many other professionals
can help team up to build a plan for Valarie. For example, the dietician can help plan a diet for Valarie,
the therapist can help her with counselling, and she can have a trainer to help her with losing weight.
teamwork will help overcome difficult situations for Valarie as she is getting all the support for all her
different needs. For example, the dietician, therapist and trainer can all make a timetable collectively in
which she will be able to have a diet plan, therapist appointments and going to the gym all in order.

Another skill I can use when providing care for Valarie is confidence. To be confident is to show certainty
about something. This is important for Valarie's care as she would aspire to have this confidence due to
her having low self- esteem. As well as this, she would have trust in the professionals due to the sincere
certainty they are showing. Being confident will help overcome difficult situations for Valarie as it will
