P.4: explain the strategies and communication techniques used with individuals' different
needs to overcome challenges
M.4: asses the strategies and communication techniques used to overcome different
challenges faced by individual with different care and support needs
Education information material (EIM)
The strategy of EIM is to inform people about current thinking on how to live healthily and give
advice on how to overcome these challenges. Examples of EIM is leaflets, posters and presentations,
they help raise awareness and provide information for people wo have communication difficulties.
(Educational Materials for Medicines 2023) An example of educational materials may help in
reminding patients about important safety information that they need to be aware of before and
during treatment with a medicine so that they use the medicine safely and effectively.
A challenge that this strategy would help overcome for Valarie is the awareness of her obesity. This
is because as of right now Valarie doesn’t feel the need to lose weight, however with the education
information materials she would maybe change her mind after seeing the health risks and factors
that come with being her size such as Type 2 diabetes, coronary heart diseases and can even lead
into a stroke. (Health effects of overweight and obesity 2022). The leaflets are also easily accessible
and free of charge so Valarie would be increasing her knowledge for free, and it would be accessible
for Valarie to receive. Inside the leaflets could include the health risks as well as easy ways to lose
weights which Valarie would be able to read in private. This is a positive impact for Valarie as reading
it in private would save her from any embarrassment she would get from being unaware for so long.
Aswell as this, if she goes ahead with losing weight and actually manages to lose weight Valarie
would be able to feel more happier that she has no health risks that could affect her. Not only this
but (Unexpected benefits of weight loss 2023) studies have shown evidence that people who were
overweight and after losing some weight they see an improvement in their mental health. However,
there could be a negative impact on Valarie which is that it could end up triggering Valarie and she
could feel even more insecure in her body then before, pushing her away from the ultimatum which
is her losing weight. It could end up triggering Valarie as having the knowledge of all the health
factors may be overwhelming to her.
A challenge that this strategy would help overcome for Tremaine is the awareness of his unhealthy
diet. This is because Tremaine doesn’t want to switch his diet even though it is causes him to be
poorly, however if Tremaine was to be presented the education information material, Tremaine
would be able to change his mind and start a gluten free diet for himself. This would show how it
would overcome that challenge as he wouldn’t willingly continue a gluten diet (Unexpected benefits
of weight loss 2023) which can damage his gut lining and leads to poor nutrient absorption, resulting
in significant digestive discomfort and frequent diarrhoea or constipation and Tremaine would be
able to make the right decisions for his health. This is a positive impact for Tremaine as Tremaine can
be physically healthy which will also make him happy as he wouldn’t be cancelling plans from being
sick. However, one negative impact for Tremaine could be that he gets into an anger outburst due to
his autism and he may misunderstand the EIM and see it as something pressuring hence the
retaliation,

Training courses
Training courses are courses available to help people with care and support needs to overcome
challenges. An example of a training course is that if an individual's family member who has a
disability such as autism, the individual could go on a course to gain knowledge about autism to help
provide care and support in the way that their family member needs. This is important as a family
member will be able to (Importance of training in health and Social Care 2023) ensure the safety of
the individual receiving care and will be able to be aware of what their needs are.
A challenge in which training courses could help Valarie overcome is her skills challenge, Valarie can
go onto a training course which will help her in finding a job for herself which will then allow her to
gain knew skills that and approach a lot of different things in different ways (knowing how to
interact with customers, basic communication skills, how to report issues). This will then have a
positive impact on Valarie as she would be able to be financially dependent on herself and not have
to rely on universal funds. Once Valarie is able to receive her own money, she will manage other sets
of skill such as money management and how to save and spend correctly. However, it can have a
negative impact on Valarie, this is because Valarie may not be able to go to her training course due
to the geographical factors which could stop her from attaining all those new skills,
A challenge in which training courses could help Tremaine overcome is his communication
challenges, Tremaine could go on an anger management course which would show him different
ways to cope with his anger instead of it being in an outburst. Due to Tremaine's autism, they could
teach him different ways to control that anger and communicate with others as well. For example,
(Meltdowns - A guide for all audiences 2023) they could teach him how to distract himself, create a
diversion and help Tremayne use calming strategies such as listening to music and removing any
potential triggers. This can be a positive impact for Tremaine as if he is to go hospital again other
service users wouldn’t be disrupted by his anger outbursts as he will be able to regulate his emotions
and communicate throughout them, however there can be a negative impact which is that the
course isn't beneficial for Tremaine as autistic people are usually set to a routine so a change in the
way he normally reacts would could cause Tremaine to be upset and lash out as he normally does.
Clinical audits
It’s a review that is based on standard of the best practice and changes are implemented whenever
necessary. For example, a GP could provide care for an individual with a long-term illness and the
review could highlight how the same medication has been used so a new drug may be beneficial for
them.
A challenge in which clinical audits could help Valarie overcome is her communication skills. Valarie
will be able to discuss her practice and care given with her support team and be able to make
decisions for herself. This will then lead to her improving her communication skills as she has a
chance to say what she wants in her own care and whatever she feels comfortable In. For example,
Valarie can make the decision of not wanting to lose weight by going to the gym but by taking
tablets for weight loss, this can then be discussed amongst her and her support team. This would
have a positive impact on Valarie as she would feel happy that there is a support system around her
and would feel confident as she is making the decisions for herself. However, this could also have a
