PHYSICAL DIVISON OF JAMMU AND KASHMIR
Morphologically, the UT of jamu and Kashmir is divided into two regions viz.
Jammu and Kashmir, each with distinct features of its own and the UT has a
unique geographical personality. But keeping in view the physiography of the
state has been divided into various physical divisions each has different relief
features.
The Alluvial Plains of Ravi, Tawi and Chenab River border the Southern Flanks
of the UT. These are located in the south of Shiwalik hills, with an elevation
from 325 – 350mtrs and fertile for Agriculture.
In the North of Outer Plains lies the mountain called Shiwaliks. These are 20 –
50km in width and hight varies between 600 – 1220mtrs above the sea level.
The bowl-shaped valley of Kashmir is surrounded by the Himalayan Folds on all
sides. These mountains vary in altitude from 2770 to 5550mtrs. Kashmir valley
on the North is bounded by “Greater Himalayas”.
