Hulpbronnen: de levensbehoeften van een organisme
als hieraan niet voldaan wordt, kan het organisme zijn niche niet invullen
Verschil tussen fundamentele en gerealiseerde niches
Fundamentele niche: theoretische niche die het organisme kan innemen
Gerealiseerde niche: eigenlijke niche
Habitat = biotoop: woonplaats van een soort
Populaties

Populatie: een voortplantingsgemeenschap
deem: geografisch en genetisch afgebakende populatie (hier gebeurt de meeste reproductie, maar
reproductie met een andere deem is mogelijk)
Populatie heeft een typische demografie:
Leeftijdsverdeling, geslachtsverdeling en groeisnelheid
Modulair organismen: genetisch identieke organismen door aseksuele kloning
Unitaire organismen: seksuele voortplanting en parthenogenense
Parthenogenese: maagdelijke voortplanting, een vrouwtje plant zich voort zonder
seksuele interactie met een mannetje (bv. komodovaraan)
Cohorte: verzameling individuen van een soort die op hetzelfde
moment geboren zijn en samen opgroeien
zuidelijk gescheiden van voorgaande en van volgende
