, Primary health care fulfills most of a person's health concerns during their life. Medical
conditions are commonly classified as acute and chronic. In a medical setting, primary care
involves disease control, healthcare, therapy, assessment, and treatment of acute and chronic
disorders. The main difference between Acute and chronic illnesses is that Acute illnesses
usually appear unexpectedly and last for a short period, mostly only a few days or even weeks
while Chronic conditions grow gradually and may continue to worsen, from months or even
years. But there are also several differences than that.
A virus or infection is the most common cause of acute illnesses, although they can also
be caused by an injury sustained in a fall or car accident, or by the misuse of pharmaceuticals or
treatments. Broken ribs, viruses such as the flu, and infections like reddish eye and urinary
infections are all examples of acute illnesses. On the other hand, Chronic diseases are frequently
induced by unhealthy habits that raise illness risks, such as nutritional deficiencies, insufficient
physical exercise, excessive alcohol consumption, or smoking. Factors such as social, emotional,
environmental, and genetic influences all play a part, (Sarin, S. K., & Choudhury, A. 2016).
People are more prone to have one or more chronic illnesses as they get older. Diabetes, Cancer,
Heart attacks, Arthritis, and Asthma are some examples of the chronic illnesses that people suffer
from.
Acute illnesses develop quickly and are associated with unique symptoms that need
immediate or short-term treatment and improve soon as they are treated. A fractured bone, for
example, that may occur as a result of a fall, must be treated by a doctor and will recover over
time. Acute illnesses, such as colds and coughs, sometimes go away on their own. The majority
of those who suffer from acute illnesses will likely heal soon. Chronic illnesses take longer to
develop, can progress over time, and can present with a variety of warning signs or none at all.
