Prokaryoten: bacteriën en archaea
Archaea: chromosomen lijken op dat van bacteriën, maar zijn opgerold en de replicatie komt
overeen met die van eukaryoten.
Cytoplasmamembraan van bacteriën is veel complexer dan dat van eukaryoten. In bacteriën
vindt de energieomzetting plaats in celmembraan.
Virussen: DNA/RNA zit in eiwitmantel ingekapseld, met daaromheen vervolgens een
vetlaag. Een virus heeft geen ribosomen. H*N* variant, staat voor:
H = ‘hemagglutinin’ = eiwit dat hecht aan de cel van de gastheer
N = ‘neuraminidase’ = enzym dat bijdraagt aan de verspreiding vanuit de cel van de gastheer
Micro-organismen (in het bijzonder bacteriën/archaea) zijn de
kleinste en oudste bewondersop aarde (3,8 miljard jaar) en zij hebben
de condities op aarde voor een belangrijk deel gemaakt zoals zij nu
zijn. Micro-organismen omvatten het grootste deel van de biomassa
op aarde en zijn bepalend voor het in stand houden van ons milieu
(zuurstof-productie).
Op basis van genetische
informatie kan een
fylogenetische boom
gemaakt worden, door het rRNA gen te
genereren. Fylogenie is de studie van de
ontstaansgeschiedenis van een groep organismen.
