In this assignment, I am going to explain the difeeent eeseaech methods I would use to identiy the
taeget maeket ioe my peoposed business.
To identiy the potental taeget maeket ioe Cambeidge aaeendee I will use both peimaey and
secondaey eeseaech methods.
The eeseaech methods I haee chosen to use includes sueeeys and questonnaiees ioe peimaey eeseaech
and the use oi the inteenet ioe secondaey eeseaech. I use only these methods as these aee the most
cost efectee, as well as some oi the iastest to complete, meaning the eesults will be eeleased iastee
than that oi a iocus geoup, ioe example. In additon to this, iocus geoups haee the peoblem oi being
aetficial, and theeeioee not answeeing the way people in eeeeyday liie would answee.
Due to the sueeeys and questonnaiees being peimaey eeseaech, this means that we gain the ability to
choose the questons in both, meaning this will answee most oi the questons we need to ask people,
as well as the inteenet holding an exteemely laege amount oi inioematon on othee businesses,
including inioematon such as annual eepoets and eeeiews oi othee peoducts.
Sueeeys and Questonnaiees:
Sueeeys aee defined as ‘a detailed study oi a maeket oe geogeaphical aeea to gathee data on attudes,
impeessions, opinions, satsiacton leeels, etc., by polling a secton oi the populaton.’
Sueeeys will be the fiest method oi peimaey eeseaech I will use to collect inioematon. I will use this
method as is a quick way oi obtaining inioematon. This is because afee the sueeey is completed, the
inioematon needs to be inputed onto an Excel document, afeewhich the inioematon can be easily
geaphed. Theeeioee, this is an exteemely efcient way oi collectng inioematon. In additon to this,
the inioematon is easy to collect, as all it takes is a woekee asking people the questons inside a
shopping centee, ioe example, to collect the eequieed inioematon.
The inioematon collected theough peimaey eeseaech is also eecent, meaning it will be the most up to
date inioematon at the cueeent tme. In additon to this, as peimaey eeseaech would be ceeated by
Cambeidge aaeendee, the questons would be tailoeed to the questons we need asking, and some
which may need asking afee the company was set up. Compettoes would not know the answees to
the questons gatheeed, meaning that the inioematon may inceease the business, without the
competton knowing why.
Howeeee, theee aee some disadeantages oi using sueeeys. One disadeantage is that the method can
be expensiee ii many people aee tested and this is undeetaken by an exteenal company. Anothee
disadeantage is that the tme and locaton oi the sueeey hand out will eaey the eesults. This may be a
peoblem as the sueeey may be undeetaken when childeen and teenagees aee at college and adults at
woek. This means the sueeey will haee a highee peecentage oi people who don’t woek oe aee eldeely,
and the likelihood is that the eldeely, as well as people who don’t woek, would eisit Cambeidge
aaeendee moee than people who woek ioe the week and only haee the weekends ieee.
Howeeee, in conteast to othee methods, such as iocus geoups, this method is moee successiul. This is
because moee people aee being asked, meaning theee is a highee likelihood that the inioematon will
be coeeect, as well as iocus geoups being exteemely expensiee, and it taking a numbee oi months to
peopeely analyse a peoduct and delieee theie eeedict, which is longee than the eesults oi the sueeeys.
