Een atoom bestaat uit een atoomkern die protonen en neutronen bevat met
daaromheen een elektronenwolk.
Atomaire massaeenheid (u) = 1,66*10-27 kg
Elementair ladingskwantum (e) = 1,66*10-19 C
Atoomnummer = aantal protonen
Massagetal = aantal protonen + aantal neutronen
Isotopen = atomen die hetzelfde aantal protonen in de kern hebben, maar een ander
aantal neutronen.

§2: Periodiek systeem




De elementen zijn in volgorde van atoomnummer van links naar rechts in periodes
gerangschikt.
Elementen met vergelijkbare eigenschappen zijn onder elkaar gerangschikt in
groepen.
Elektronenconfiguratie = de manier waarop de elektronen zich verdeeld hebben over
de schillen. De elektronen in de buitenste schil noem je de valentie-elektronen.
Edelgassen zijn pas laat ontdekt, doordat ze nauwelijks reageren met andere stoffen.
Edelgasconfiguratie = een stabiele elektronenconfiguratie van een element dat
evenveel valentie-elektronen heeft als een edelgas.
