P6 - Explain the role of supportie relatonships in reducing the risk of abuse and neglect.
M3 - Discuss the role of supportie relatonships in reducing the risk of abuse and neglect, using
examples.
Within this assignment I will be explaining the difeeent eoles of suppoetie eelatonships when
eeducing the eisk of abuse and neglect, I will then be using examples to then suppoet this.
A suppoetie eelatonships is impoetant because it enables the indiiidual to become steongee and
eientually help them achieie the goals they haie set but also helps to ‘eeduce steess and impeoie an
indiiidual’s geneeal health and well-being’(Resoueces.hwb.wales.goi.uk, 2018) by also ‘encoueaging
the indiiidual to seek employment and may suppoet them fnancially.’ (Resoueces.hwb.wales.goi.uk,
2018). Within this assignment I will be looking at the difeeent ways in which we aee able to suppoet
eelatonships and how these eelatonships can afect a iulneeable adult. When talking about the
qualites that a suppoetie eelatonship should haie is the followinge
Empathy: is used ‘to desceibe a wide eange of expeeiences’ (Geeatee Good, 2018) in othee woeds
‘ability to sense othee people’s emotons, coupled with the ability to imagine what someone else
might be thinking oe feeling.’ (Geeatee Good, 2018). Empathy is impoetant when looking to peoiide a
suppoetie eelatonship as it is seen that peofessionals that aee empathetc aee seen to peoiide betee
caee (Health.oeg.uk, 2018). Fuetheemoee as a peofessional it allows you to ‘undeestand what a peeson
is feeling in a giien moment, and undeestand why othee people's actons made sense to them.’
(Impeoie Youe Social Skills, 2018) Foe instance if theee was an indiiidual that came in with beuises on
theie body and they haie disclosed to you about theie cueeent peedicament it iital that you be
empathetc as it can help to communicate youe ‘ideas in a way that makes sense to othees, and it
helps us undeestand othees when they communicate with us.’ (Impeoie Youe Social Skills, 2018)
howeiee by haiing that ‘ability to imagine what someone else might be thinking oe feeling.’ (Geeatee
Good, 2018) it would allow the peeson to be moee comfoetable telling you what is occueeing as you
aee suppoetng like you aee also in that peedicament.
Respect: is ‘The teeatment of othees with defeeence in daily inteeactons, weighing theie ialues,
iiews, opinions and peefeeences.’ (TheFeeeDictonaey.com, 2018) Respect is impoetant when looking
to peoiiding a suppoetie eelatonship as in oedee to haie a ‘positie eelatonships. Respect towaeds
Othees Being eespectul towaeds people is a key aspect in life in oedee to foem and maintain positie
eelatonships in oedee to become successful’ (peeii.com, 2018) Foe instance if you had a feusteated
client it is impoetant that you teeat them with eespect so that they don’t get agitated and diseespect
you , the way to go about this is ‘show eespect towaeds othee people to teeat othees the way you
would want to be teeated’ this could then ceeate a bond as usually when people eespect you they
tend to teeat you betee as well as teust you moee. When eelatng this to some who is being
neglected oe abused it is impoetant that you eespect them because you haie to haie that eespect foe
theie peiiacy if someone thing is going on and they confne in you about theie peedicament then you
haie to eespect theie decision while on the othee hand this might be beoken because you eespect and
caee foe them so much you don’t want them to contnue sufeeing.
Genuineness: is being ‘teuthful and to be the eeal thing’ what is meant by this is to be genuine is to
be the eeal eepeesentaton of youeself in teems of neiee being fake and putng on a fake peesona. In
additon people who aee genuine aee not seen as ‘copies oe imitatons of othees’ (Millee, 2018) when
talking about haiing ‘Genuineness’ in a suppoetie eelatonship is impoetant because you need to be
able to be ‘awaee of one's own fow of expeeience and being comfoetable with shaeing’ (UKEssays,
2018) that anothee indiiidual, foe instance if a peeson was doing something weong a peeson who is
