P2 - Outline possible efeets of dementi on in individuil’s heilth ind quility of life.

Within this assignment I will be looking at 10 efects that could occur to an individual that is sufering
from dementa in relaton to their quality of life.

First efect would be Depression this might afect an individual’s health and quality of life with
dementa as it means that they will fnd it ‘difcult to express complex feelings such as sadness,
despair and worthlessness.’ (Alzheimer-europe.org, 2018) Furthermore this could afect the way
they live their life in relaton to not living their life to the fullest, this might be because they are
sufering from something like hallucinatons that ‘involve the themes of guilt and death or voices
saying that they are bad.’ (Alzheimer-europe.org, 2018). This could have an infuence on their health
as the ‘voices’ that they hear could infuence in a change in appette but also lead them to reduce
their level of actvity in terms of partcipaton in actvites as they withdraw and become isolated
within their own bubble as they feel as though they are worthless because they can’t remember
where they put an item or what they did the day before (Alzheimer-europe.org, 2018). Furthermore,
when an individual with dementa that has depression will tend to isolate them self’s from friends
and family but also be feel hopeless which these feeling could progress on for months even years as
they know their isn’t a known cure for dementa.

Second efect would be Anger this might afect an individual’s health and quality of life with
dementa as they might show aggressive behaviour that might be verbal or physical. This could have
an efect on a person’s quality of life as they might get frustrated for having anger outbursts ‘with no
apparent reason’ (Anon, 2018). This could have an impact on someone’s health as the things that
they do when they are angry could injure themselves, furthermore if this is ‘linked to the person’s
personality and behaviour before they developed dementa’ (Society, 2018) then this would be hard
for them to get the best quality of life as they are not going to be able to enjoy life if they are angry
but could also be hard to support them when they do. A person who is always aggressive might also
put their family members in danger so they might have to go into a care home which might lead
them to be isolated and withdrawn.

Third efect would be Fitgue. This might afect an individual’s health and quality of life with
dementa as it would decrease their ‘energy level’ (Bristal, 2018) which could be a challenge. nne
reason for this is because they will have difculty sleeping this would increase them not havening
enough energy but also it ‘disrupts the body’s natural circadian rhythm’ so they won’t be able to
sleep for an extended period of tme’ (Bristal, 2018). This could have an efect on their diet as it
would mean they would ‘Lack of a balanced diet and too many sugary foods can lead to vitamin
defciencies’ (Bristal, 2018) they might also become defcient in certain vitamins such as ‘vitamins a
or B can cause fatgue, as can low levels of copper, iron or magnesium.’ (Bristal, 2018).

Fourth efect would be Stress. Stress could afect and individuals health as it is seen that ‘A key
hormone released when you’re stressed, cortsol, has been linked to problems with memory’
(website et al., 2018) this efect an individuals health as they might forget to do simple things which
could lead them to stress out about it because they cant remember. This an also have an impact on a
persons health further as it is seen that ‘stress does appear to have an efect on progression in mild
cognitve impairment’ (website et al., 2018). In terms of how this could impact their quality of life , it
could stop them from doing the things they love or even make relatonships with the people they
love harder as they tend to forget who they are and get stressed out because they don’t remember
who they ae or if they are revising a memory it could cause them to be frustrated with them self.
