Een touch interface is een interface waarvan de input gedetecteerd kan worden via een aanraking op
een display van een apparaat. De term touch interface verwijst in het algemeen naar het aanraken of
contact hebben met een apparaat door een vinger of hand, echter touch interfaces kunnen ook
worden aangestuurd door andere objecten, zoals een stylus, tag of de standaard randapparatuur
(toetsenbord, muis, joystck ect).

We kunnen de geschiedenis van de manier van interacte met een computer onderverdelen in drie
categorieën:




1) Command Line interface : De eerste computers werden, met hulp van het toetsenbord , met tekst
commando’s aangesproken . De commando’s moesten door de gebruikers worden onthouden. De
gebruiker kreeg pas weer de kans om het programma aan te spreken met een nieuwe commando
nadat een eerdere opdracht uitgevoerd en afgerond was.
2) Graphical User Interface : Met deze grafsche interface werd het mogelijk gemaakt om te werken
met een muis.
3) Natural User Interface : Deze interface is gericht op intuïte. onder specifeke kennis kan een
gebruiker fysiek door middel van aanraking, bewegen, uitrekken, samenvouwen, schuiven, draaien,
met vinger, handen, en met voorwerpen (tags) op het gevoel een systeem besturen.

De touch technologie behoort tot de categorie natural user interface. Er zijn verschillende soorten
touch technologieën. Deze technologieën kunnen weer worden onderscheiden door twee soorten
toepassingen waarin ze voorkomen:
- Single touch interacte: Slechts één gebruiker kan hier input geven, waardoor zelfstandig
werken goed mogelijk is.
- Mult touch interacte: Het is mogelijk meerdere drukpunten tegelijkertjd waar te nemen.
Meerdere personen kunnen input geven waardoor samenwerken mogelijk is.
