Inleiding en motivatie
Accountants verzoeken andere accountants vaak om advies, dit gebeurd op informele basis. Uit de
wetenschappelijke literatuur is op dit moment weinig onderzoek naar gedaan of het inwinnen van
advies bij andere accountants de beslissingen van de accountant verbeteren. Het artikel van Kadous et
al. doet onderzoek naar de effecten van het inwinnen van advies van accountants op de kwaliteit van de
beslissingen die zij maken.

Gezien het onderzoek zich richt op de beslissingen van accountants en de effecten van het inwinnen van
advies, is het artikel geschreven vanuit het perspectief van de accountant. De bijdrage die de schrijvers
aan de wetenschappelijke literatuur willen leveren is duidelijkheid creëren wat voor effect het vragen
van advies bij andere accountants heeft op de besluitvorming van de accountant. Het kan namelijk zijn
dat ze op basis van het advies hun beslissingen aanpassen, dus tegen hun initiële standpunt ingaan, of
dat zij hun eigen beslissingen beter onderbouwen en dus niet zullen aanpassen.



Toegepaste theorieën en wetenschappelijke literatuur
Als basis voor het onderzoek gebruiken de onderzoekers eerder verschenen literatuur. Volgens Gibbins
en Emby (1985) zoeken accountants geregeld naar advies. Accountantskantoren moedigen dit ook aan
(Zeidman, 2010; Ranzilla et al., 2011). De onderzoekers verwachten dat de bereidheid om gebruik te
maken van tegengesteld advies in lijn is met hun sociale band met andere accountants. De sociale band
is reeds ook beschreven in artikelen van Berscheid (1994) en Feng & MacGeorge (2007).
