The characteristics of criminal behaviour:

1. Property predatory crime- persons are involved in attempting to or
actually taking the personal property of others without permission. E.G
burglary

2. Property fraudulent crime- persons are involved in deceit or manipulation
with the purpose of converting property or services of others to their own
use. E.G. embezzlement

3. Interpersonal violence general- persons are involved in actions that
threaten or cause actual personal harm. E.G. murder.

4. Interpersonal violence sexual- persons are involved in actions that
threaten or cause actual personal harm and contain a sexual element. E.G.
rape.

5. Transactional vice- persons are involved in victimless ofences where
there is a willing exchange of goods of services. E.G. prostitution,
gambling

6. Order disruption- personas are involved in actions where there is no direct
victim, but concern is raised about potential victims. E.G. resisting arrest,
rioting.

7. Folk/mundane crime- a broad category whereby persons are involved in
actions that can range from minor rule violations e.g. fshing with no
licence to more serious violations e.g. load regulations on commercial
vehicles. Although much legislation is justifed in terms of creating order or
efficiency, folk/mundane criminal acts tend to foster public ambivalence
ad the public generally regards such as inconvenience or nuisance rather
than a crime.
