Compare and contrast the Systems Development Lifecycle with Agile Development
methodologies.

Systems Development Cycle (SDLC) is an approach in which we divide the software
development process into distinct steps or phases to design and develop high-quality software
(Mandula, 2018). The commonly followed steps or phases are planning, analysis, design,
implementation, and maintenance. The implementation step may be subdivided into testing and
deployment. The developers use different programming languages, tools, and frameworks that
are suitable to create an efficient and high-quality product.

Agile Development Methodologies are approaches that are driven by customer requirements and
solutions are provided using collaborative work of several cross-function teams and end-users
(Pedamkar, 2021). It is an iterative and incremental methodology where the activities may not
follow a sequential process. This method is flexible and can incorporate change in terms of
requirements or specifications easily.

SDLC follows a sequential development cycle while Agile is a methodology that follows an
iterative approach (Pedamkar, 2021). The Agile methodology allows better communication
among developers, management, and client (GeeksforGeeks, 2021). Furthermore, the activities
could run concurrently making project management easier. SDLC focuses on delivering the final
product at the end of the project. On the other hand, Agile methodology allows the project to be
divided into milestones where parts of the project are delivered.

SDLC allows developers to make good quality products however it doesn't allow changes to be
made after the initial stages. Agile allows changes to be made and provides a dynamic
environment. Some developers chose SDLC because it's easy to understand and use (Pedamkar,
2021). Additionally, SDLC requires close attention from the project manager and Agile
methodology needs close involvement of clients.

Provide examples where it might be appropriate to implement each.

SDLC is best used for projects where the scope of change is limited and the project is well
defined. SDLC can be used for any sized projects hence it is favored for larger projects
