BTEC Level 3 Unit 1 (P4) Name: Daniil Chernat

Unit ttle: The Business Environment Assignment ttle: What business is all about

P4) Explain how their style of organizaton helps them to fulfl their purpose.

Moo – Moo’s

Moo – Moo’s is a fat structure because there are only two layers of staff i.e. the owners and workers.
The line of the communicaton between owners and workers is short. Thereforef communicaton can be
done quickly. This helps Moo – Moo’s to introduce new ideas quickly and efectvely. .n additon to thatf
chain of command in Moo – Moo’s is shortf because there are only the owners of the business and
employees. This means that any commands from the owners can be carried out by workers quickly and
so the business can be very responsive to their customers changing requirements. This helps Moo –
Moo’s to make more proftf as team is working quick and efcient. The Span of control at Moo – Moo’s
is widef which means that there are only owners and employees and each owner managers a relatvely
large number of workers. This means that workers are motvated because they fell trusted and so work
harderf that helps Moo – Moo to be proftable.

Oxfam

Oxfam has a much taller structure then Moo – Moo’s because they are a much larger organizaton and
they operate globally. Howeverf they are not completely tall because you have to have a lot of layers of
managers to be a tall organizaton. Oxfam don’t wont to employee a lot of managersf as it will cost a lot
to pay all managers wagesf which means people that live in poverty areas will get less support from
Oxfam. Alsof because Oxfam is not completely a tall structuref it means that line of communicaton is
relatvely short. This is goodf because it doesn’t take a long tme for Oxfam to communicate with their
employees and volunteers. Which means charity can operate quick and efcient. The chain of command
is relatvely shortf but it is stll longer then Moo – Moo’s. As the chain of command is shortf it means that
communicaton can be done quick and tasks can be completed in a short period of tme. Span of control
is wide a narrowf because at the top of the structure Oxfam has employees with high responsibilites
and at the botom of the structure it is narrow because one employee could have up 10 volunteers
working. This help Oxfam to fulfl their purposef as strategic aimf communicatons (verbal writen) and
development of Oxfam can be done in a short tme.
