Types of teams in Belbins theoryThere are 9 types of team members according to Belbins theory and Belbins theory suggests that
each role is important by an equal amount.
Coordinator
The coordinator in the team is the one who takes control of the team and assigns tasks. The
coordinator can identfy talents in their team members to help with assigning tasks to individuals
in the group. The coordinator is usually mature so could deal with disagreements in the group
effectvely so the group can contnue as they were. The coordinator makes sure targets are set
for the group and that they are clear. However, the coordinator may also take too much control
and may over delegate tasks to their team members, and leave them selves litle work to do,
other than telling their group members what to do. Coordinators can be manipulatve and their
team members may not even realize that the coordinator has a smaller work load tll its too late.
Shaper
The shaper is the one who motvates and drives their team members to get the work done. They
ensure that they overcome obstacles and help their team members do the same. The shaper
works best under pressure and knows how to deal with challenges. However, in an atempt to
motvate their peers they can end up offending their team members with a mean sense of
humor, without intending to. This is because the shapers main priority is to get the work
completed but when stressed they may pass it off to their peers.
Monitor evaluator
This team member is strategic and considers all the optons available and then interprets the
best opton to complete tasks. The monitor evaluator is generally good at making judgements to
make a fnal decision, even though they can be slow to make that decision because they are
thinking of multple solutons but can only pick out one. The monitor evaluator might be overly
critcal so their team members become unmotvated and uninspired, which ends up making the
monitor evaluator more critcal as a result. They lack the ability to drive their peers as a result
because the monitor evaluator blames any faults in the team on other group members.
Resource investigator
A resource investgator is the team member that is outgoing and starts off enthusiastc however
they tend to lose interest afer the inital stage has past. A resource investgator likes to make
new contacts and they enjoy bringing ideas to the group.
Implementer
The implementer is the member of the group that actually turns ideas and plans into real work.
The implementer is practcal and completes tasks in a way that suits them. They are efcient as
ideas turn into work very quickly. Other team members can rely on an implementer because
they are unlikely to procrastnate. An implementer might be set in their own ways and be
reluctant to complete tasks in a new way, and prefer completed tasks using a tried and tested
method because they are certain it will work.
Team worker
The team worker tries to avoid fricton and goes along with what other team members have
said. They afraid to share ideas out of fear of them being wrong. The team worker tries their best
to get along with their team members and are known to be diplomatc, so they avoid being
critcal and causing disagreements. However, they can sometmes be over diplomatc to the
point that they avoid confrontaton because they think it might hurt the other team members
