Factor 1: Extreme climatic conditions
Extreme climate is natural, yet unpredictable weather conditions which are harsh
and possibly even dangerous if you’re not prepared and protected. Some
countries are at a larger risk depending on their geographical circumstances e.g.
if their close to the equator. Some extreme climate conditions include
earthquakes, hurricanes and monsoons.
My first example is the recent hurricane Maria which occurred earlier in 2017
which terribly first afected ominica the storm then devastated the US territory
of Puerto Rico leaving 3 million citizens without electricity and approximately 66
dead. It has negatively impacted tourism because many hotels and resorts have
been destroyed by the hurricane leaving tourists with booked accommodation
nowhere to stay such as; Hotel Miramar, Hotel Villa Montana, the Coral Princess
Inn and Holiday Inn Express San Juan. The FCO have also declared that tourists
shouldn’t travel to any places afected by Maria including Puerto Rico– this will
hugely impact tourists decisions weather or not they would like to spend their
holiday there. Moreover this will result in a lot of money loss for the travel and
tourism industry on the island.
My second example is the monsoon which impacted Mumbai, in India resulting in
over 7,20101 deaths and 7.8 million children being taken away from their
education due to the danger and damage the monsoon has caused.
