Churning - ANSWER- A condition in a centrifugal in which the impeller is rotating, but no water is being discharged. Combination Standpipe and Sprinkler System - ANSWER- A system where the water piping service both 2 1/2in (65) outlet for fire Department use and oulet for automatic sprinkler Concealed Sprinkler - ANSWER- A recessed sprinkler with a cover plate Deluge Valve - ANSWER- water supply control valve intended to be operated by actuation of an automatic detection system that is installed in the same area as the discharge devices. Suitable for HAZARDOUS OCCUPANCIES. INTENDED USE IS MANUAL AND AUTO Deludge Sprinkler System - ANSWER- A sprinkler system employing open sprinklers that are attached to a piping system that is connected to a water supply through a VALVE that is opened of a DETECTION SYSTEM installed in the same area as the sprinklers Dry Pipe Sprinkler System - ANSWER- A sprinkler system employing automatic sprinklers that are attached to a piping system containing air or nitrogen under pressure. The release of the air or nitrogen,(as from the opening of a sprinkler) results in the water pressure opening a valve known as a dry pipe valve, resulting in the flow of water into the piping system and out of the fused sprinklers heads. Dry Sprinkler - ANSWER- A sprinkler secured in an extension nipple that has a seal at the inlet to prevent water from entering the nipple until the sprinkler operates. May be configured with an upright, pendent or sidewall sprinkler. AUTO/NON_AUTO Dry Standpipe - ANSWER- A standpipe system designed to have piping contain water only when the system is being utilized (NO AUTOMATIC WATER SUPPLY) Fire Department Connection - ANSWER- A connection, normally on the exterior of the building. (FORMERLY KNOW AS SIAMESE CONNECTION) Fire Hose - ANSWER- A flexible conduit constructed of one or more reinforcements (JACKETS), Fire Hydrant - ANSWER- A valve connection on a water supply system having one or more outlets and that is used to supply hose and fire department pumps with water. Bulb Sprinkler - ANSWER- A sprinkler operated by heat breaking a glass bulb filled with a non-freezing liquid with diamiter that vary from 3mm for quick response sprinklers to 5mm for standard response sprinklers. Hose Connection - ANSWER- a combination of equipment provided for connection of a hose to the standpipe system that includes a hose valve with a threaded outlet. Hose Station - ANSWER- a combination of a hose rack, hose nozzle, hose, and hose connection. Impairment Coordinator - ANSWER- Person responsible for ensuring the proper safety precautions are taken when the fire protection system is placed out of service (designated by the owner) In Service - ANSWER- The Status of hose stored in a hose house, on a rack or reel, or on a fire apparatus that is available and ready for immediate use at an incident. Personal Supervision - ANSWER- Supervision by the holder of a department certificate who is required to be personally present on the premises, or other proximate location acceptable to the department, while the duties for which the certificate is required is being performed. Pressure Restricting Device - ANSWER- A valve or device designed for the purpose of reducing of reducing the downstream water pressure under both flowing (residual) and non-flowing (static) conditions Pressure Reducing Valve - ANSWER- A valve or device designed for the purpose of reducing of reducing the downstream water pressure under flowing (residual) conditions only. Pressure Tank - ANSWER- A tank using air pressure to supplying water for water-based fire protection systems. Tank contents to be maintained at one third air to two thirds water. Quick Response Sprinkler Head - ANSWER- A sprinkler having a fusible link with a response time index (RTI) of 50 or less. Recessed Sprinkler - ANSWER- A sprinkler in which all or part of the body, other than the shank thread, is mounted above the ceiling.
