Veel ziekenhuizen hebben een afdeling radiotherapie.
Dat is de afdeling waar mensen met kanker worden behandeld door straling.
Als je kanker hebt heb je een tumor in je lichaam, dat snelgroeiende groep cellen.
Als je wordt bestraald met straling moet je in een speciale ruimte met een stralingsapparaat.
Maar niet alleen de tumorcellen worden beschadigd, ook je normale cellen.
ELECTROMAGNETISCHE STRALING
Radiotherapeuten gebruiken meestal gammastraling.
Het is een straling die dwars door je lichaam heen kan en cellen beschadigd.
Gammastraling is een elektromagnetische straling.
Gammastraling staat helemaal rechts in het elektromagnetisch spectrum.
De volgorde van het spectrum geeft aan hoe schadelijk het is.
RÖNTGEN
Röntgenstraling is schadelijker dan uv-straling.
Het dringt veel dieper je lichaam binnen.
Röntgenstraling wordt gebruikt om röntgenfoto’s te maken van b.v.b. Botbreuken.
Dat zijn digitale opnames waar je vooral je botten op ziet.
