No country for old men
Cormac McCarthy

Summary

Llewelyn Moss is hunting deer in south-west Texas when his eyes catch a few
cars and people lying in the ground. He walks up to the scene and discovers that
all but one of the men are dead. Moss fnds a lot of cocaine and a leather case
with 2.4 million dollars. He decides to take the money and leave the crime scene.
When he gets home, he feels bad for the living man and goes back to the scene.
He isn’t the only one who discovered it and he gets chased. After he escaped, he
goes home to his wife and tells her to go to her mom’s until things calm down. He
discovers that there are some people after the money and he fees from place to
place just trying to survive. He fails and he gets killed by some Mexican drug
dealers.

Character analysis

Llewelyn Moss: This is the main character of the story. He lives in Texas and is
the “cowboy” in this western story. He is the good guy who gets in trouble by
accident. He loves his wife but does sometimes take a risk, even if it means she
is in danger.

Anton Chiguhr: this is the bad guy in the story. He is a man of his word and that
is what he is proud of. He is an assassin and he wants to get hold of the money.
He carries a silenced shotgun and a gas-powered stun gun. He is a psychopath
who does anything to accomplish his goals and he never shows any emotions.

Ed Tom Bell: this is the sherif. He tries to save Moss from Chiguhr and is a man
of principals. His dad and grandfather where sherifs, just like him. Bell is from a
time where rules where clearer. He also left his mates in WW2 and let them die.

Carson Wells: He is a bounty hunter who gets hired to get the money. He is a bit
of a coward and gets wrecked by Chiguhr. He tries to be a bad ass but he isn’t.

Theme

The theme of the book is that you should better not put your nose in others
business. Moss takes the money and from that moment he is being hunted. If he
hadn’t taken the money and walked away, nothing happened and he and his wife
would still be alive.

Opinion

This book is special. It is a western with the classic characters. The diference is
that there is no duel at the end and the book isn’t fnished when the main
character dies. I chose the book because a friend recommended it together with
the title. ‘No country for old men’ sounds bad ass and I love the kind of tough
feeling that you get with the title and the book. It is not a book for everyone so
you must like a certain type of books to enjoy reading it.
