Unit 11: Digital Graphics and Animation
11.2 – Project Brief (P3)

Task 1: Project Brief

• Target audience – gender, age, interests etc
• Purpose
• Client Requirements
• Target platform/medium – web browser (Firefox, chrome, safari), phone (Android, iOS),
computer(Windows, Mac)
• Interactivity - Behaviours
• Legal and ethical considerations/constraints – copyright, age restrictions
• File naming and storage locations
• Hardware requirements to create graphics
• Software requirements to create graphics
• Technical Constraints

▪ Target audience – gender, age, interests etc

The target audience for my graphics will have an age of 5+. The user needs to be able to interact with the game and follow the
instructions that will be outputted on the screen, and I believe that a user of this game would be able to do that very easily. I
believe the game content would be very challenging and fun for this age range, which would then hopefully result in a lot of
popularity. The game will not be gender specific which means anyone can enjoy the game.

▪ Purpose
This game is a way of exercising my creativity in a productive way. I believed making such a game would consolidate my
graphic designing skills, whilst also contemporaneously add value to my portfolio of achievements. Secondly, I believe making
a newer, enhanced and more aesthetically pleasing version of old Flappy Bird would result in more downloads from people all
over the world, which could possibly end up as a passive stream of income for me.

▪ Client Requirements
The client (in this case Retro Games) has clearly specified their software requirements for almost all aspects of the game. The
devices should be able to run the game which will have a mix of high-quality raster and vector graphics involved, for features
such as the logo, navigation bar, animation and the banner. The game would also run animations both on the logo (for the
animated version) and the overall gameplay. Most of the requirements revolve around 500x500px max resolution, 72 dpi,
2mb’s or lower of file size for each file type - .jpg, .png, .gif, and also other uncommon file types like .swf and .avi. Finally, the
animation loops would be played at a loop of 25fps which means the devices would need to have such specifications to run
the game with these settings.

▪ Target platform/medium – web browser (Firefox, chrome, safari), phone (Android,
iOS), computer (Windows, Mac)
As the client requirements mention that the graphics will need to be compatible on a “monitor, tablet
and phone” without pixelating, so as far as the requirements go, the game should be able to run on
phones and tablets (both iOS and android), computers (on popular operating systems like Mac, Windows,
and Linux). The game should also work on Web APIs but because of the complexity involved, these web
API games would only run on a computer and not on mobiles and tablets; for these devices, the users
would have to download the dedicated apps for them.

▪ Interactivity – Behaviours
I will include buttons on the promotional website, which will be a mixture of Static and active; like rollovers.
There will be Animations to make the website more interactive and eye catchy; by using loops. Or playing each animation
manually.
Navigation Bar: How the user will know they have pressed the navigation bar. To show the feedback to the user if they have
pressed it. Maybe change colours of the cursor when the cursor is on the navigation bar.

, ▪ Legal and ethical considerations/constraints – copyright, age restrictions
First of all, we need to show that our work is going to be original, (even if that means taking ideas from someone else, but
changing it up slightly) so that our website does not get any copyright claims and infringement.
Also, in order to showcase that the work really is ours, we need to showcase enough skill in our content, perhaps by having
the functionality of our website on par with our original content.
Furthermore, we need to make sure not to steak anyone’s work, however if there is an absolute need to use it, then I’ll make
sure to contact the owner and ask for permission.
From an ethical point of view, I’ll make sure not to include any form of sex, drugs or weaponry, to make it child-friendly.
Although there is “clever advertisement” - (where designers have double meaning behind a certain idea), I would consider it
but not directly implement it.

▪ File naming and storage locations
As mentioned in the brief overview of the client requirements, there are four main distinguished aspects of the game itself,
which I will now outline. The main four files would be for logos, navigation bar, animations and banner. Within these files
everything sub-related would be placed to make accessibility easier.
In designing, the asset that is going to be saved, should be saved very frequently, for instance after every 10 minutes, as a lot
of time and effort goes into every minute of work and if you end up losing them, then a lot of work would be lost, so if the
latest version is lost then the most recent version would be there.
The main purpose of adopting the habit of naming files and locating them in a civil order is to be more organized, to be
descriptive, to use underscore, and use numbers, to also copy multiple files with the same or slightly more changes in it.

▪ Hardware requirements to create graphics
The minimum hardware requirements needed for these graphics are the following: -
• High Spec computer
• Containing higher than 8 gig of ram.
• High spec CPU
• High spec GPU to process all the designing efficiently.
Other than the essentials needed, there can be more peripherals added to make the process of graphic creation smoother,
efficient, and fun.
• Gaming mouse; which could be used to contain macros/shortcuts.
• Graphics tablet; to make full use of features such as TruTone.
• Good monitor, 27-inch screen. At least.

▪ Software requirements to create graphics
Need software like Adobe Dreamweaver, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Animate and HTML software to design the game and code
for the front end of the website.

▪ Technical Constraints
Technical skill; still learning, still learners so not as good at manipulating and creating graphics at the moment.
Time: As a full-time student involved with other studies, there is going to a constraint of time, especially with graphic creation
as it requires a lot of deep focus and time perfect those fine details to aesthetically please the target audience.
There can be a curtailment with the college system/networking as many times in the past I’ve, along with other students
experienced instability with the network, such as OneDrive not working, which can not only waste our already limited time
but also leave us redundant from working on our graphics.
Hardware requirements.
Software requirements: Subscriptions needed for Unity and Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Office.
