Unit 6: Fitness requirements
Army Fitness Test
The army does Fitness test so they can assess the recruit’s ability, if they are capable to join
the armed forces. Each test will determine their ability, for example - the 1.5 run will see if
the recruit’s cardiovascular endurance up to the standard that it needs to be. Once the
fitness test is done they can progress on with the other tests.
The U’s Army’s fitness test is one of the worlds hardest because it tests your physical and
mental abilities to the max the end outcome of this is that, the UK creates outstanding
soldiers. The fitness test isn’t just a one-day situation it will be tested in a during the two-day
selection process at an Army Development and Selection Centre (ADSC). You will go
through a range of strength and stamina tests, as well as a 2.4 km run. The runs consist of
running different terrains and incline.
To test your strength: You lift a weighted bag of 40 kg to a height of 1.45 metres with this
you should be able to do a certain amount of push ups and pull ups.
Jerry can test: You have to carry 2x 20 kg water containers over a set course of 120 metres.
You should aim to complete the course in two minutes or less if not you can re-try and if you
fail it again you might need to work on that exact exercise for you to retry again.
However, it’s not over yet as you will still need to keep physically fit and healthy within the
job as you required to patriciate in a lot of physical challenges!
Fire service
As part of the process of joining the Fire service, you will be required to undertake physical
tests/examination to determine your fitness levels and if you are physically capable on taking
on the job. The test aims to assess your level of fitness, strength and endurance as well as
