Waarom deze wijkanalyse?
De gemeente en woningcorporatie signaleren de laatste tijd toenemende problematiek in de
Afrikaanderwijk. Deze ontwikkeling willen wij in kaart brengen om een duidelijk beeld te
krijgen van de stand van zaken in de Afrikaanderwijk.
Korte schets van de wijk
De Afrikaanderwijk is een oude arbeiderswijk in het Rotterdamse stadsdeel Feijenoord. De
wijk ligt tussen de wijken Katendrecht en de Kop van Zuid en ook tegen het centrum van
Rotterdam aan. De woonwijk is ontstaan toen rond 1900 de havens werden gegraven. Om
de havenarbeiders te huisvesten werden er woonwijken rond de havengebieden gebouwd,
waarvan de Afrikaanderwijk er één is. De Afrikaanderwijk was een van de eerste wijken
waarin een meerderheid van de bevolking van allochtone afkomst was.
In het centrum van de wijk ligt het Afrikaanderplein. Aan dit plein bevindt zich onder andere
het wijkgebouw ’t Klooster en een moskee. In 2005 is het plein opnieuw ingericht.1
