In this assignment, I will be explaining the role of workforce development in the health sector. I will also give
examples that relate to the scenario.

Work force development is when an organisaton enhances its human resources. This can be done in the following
ways...

 Skills; Organisatons would ensure that staf have the correct skills so that they are suitable to work in a
health or social care setng. Examples of important skills are communicaton, positve behaviour and ability
to work under pressure. Also, it is important that all staf members have the required qualifcatons.
 Environment; Organisatons would ensure that their environment is constantly being developed. This could
be done by purchasing new equipment and keeping it up to date. Also, by ensuring that the disabled have
access to their services, for example, by installing lifs.
 Process; Organisatons would ensure that their process of delivering their care is correct. For example, that
all their workers follow policies, procedures, work efciently, are motvated and know how to manage their
tme so that tasks are not delayed.
 Leadership; Organisatons would ensure that their workforce has leadership skills. This is extremely
important in health and social care because when caring for patents, workers will have to take initatve and
can't always rely on someone to tell you what to do. Also, workers may have to tell others what to do.
 Training; Organisatons would ensure that their staf is properly trained by teaching them the right skills,
values and principles.
 Management; Organisatons would ensure that they manage their workers, so that they know what to do
and that they are aware of all the company's policies, procedures and standards.
 Rewards/progression; Organisatons would ensure that they reward their workers for good work. This is
important because it would motvate them to carry on producing good quality work. An example of a reward
could be a pay rise.
 Disciplinary; Organisatons would ensure that if a worker is not working up to standard they would get a
disciplinary. A disciplinary is when an individual is removed from their job afer they broke the company's
rules. This is very important in health and social care because a worker that does not obey rules or meet
standards is a threat to service users.
 Supervision; Organisatons would ensure that they supervise their workers. This would be done to make
sure that they are working up to standard and if they make any mistakes the supervisor can correct them so
that they do not do it again. Also, managers would ensure that people are working to the job descripton. For
example, the job descripton of a midwife would be to deliver babies and provide advice for mothers and the
family. The manager would make sure that the midwife is doing this.
 Team building; Organisatons would ensure that their workforce knows how to work in a team. This is
essental in health and social care setngs because one worker cannot look afer all patents, it takes many
individuals to provide care. For example, at a care home there would be care workers, nurses, a manager
and cooks. All these individuals have diferent roles and work together to provide care for the elderly.
 Change; Organisatons would ensure that they keep up with all changes. For example, any new technology
or essental standards. This would also include keeping up with any new legislatons and changes to practce.
It is essental that health and social care professionals are constantly contnuing professional development
when it comes to health and social care, because knowledge, technology, standards and legislatons are
always being updated.
