Unit 6: Personal and Professional Development in Health and Social Care
Knowledge & Practice
To begin with I will be writng about my personal and professional development which will
come in handy in my Health and Social care career path. I will be refectng on my personal and
professional development, refectng on my skills will help me improve on my skills and develop
the skills I need.
In my secondary school i studied my gcses which were english, maths, science, religious studies,
drama, french, ICT and graphics.I took my gcse exam in June 2015 and achieved my GCSE’s
which include English grade, science grade B, French grade B and Graphics grade c.
My favourite subjects were drama, biology (science) and English this is because these subjects
helped me develop my ideas and make me more confdent. I enjoyed Drama and Biology
because i am really good at memorising things. As well as learning i like being creatve and
coming up with roles conductng people. Biology ofered me creatvity and independent
progression that made me develop skills.
During my secondary school tme at Buxton School I previously had my work experience
placement at a nursery; I carried a responsibility of looking and caring for children from infants
to litle children aged 5 years olds. I was responsible for being there for them and creatng
actvites with the staf members to get to interact as many children into actvites. During my
work experience at the nursery I came across learning new skills into interactng with litle
children and developed my understanding of their mind-set. The placement helped me as I was
able to put theory into practce. During my years at Buxton school 2011-2016 .
My second work experience was at IBIS Styles London Excel Hotel which motvated me with my
work, it has given me a new challenge and gained me new skills that could be transferable to
my future role. It has given me an idea of working on my own initatve as well as being part of a
wider team.
Throughout the years at Buxton school i have also been part of educatonal clubs during school
and afer school, this is because i am a very communicatve and friendly person that likes to
create a nice atmosphere when i am around people..I have been part of ‘Buxton Voice’ which
allowed me to voice my opinions. Being part of the voice gave me the chance to represent my
form class and taught me communicaton skills. I have also been a prefect in my school and
have received my qualifcaton certfcate.
My frst year in college i have studied A level Sociology, Media Studies and Classical
Civilisaton .I achieved Sociology and Media Studies but decided to change course as i felt like
Health and Social care suits me more and is linked to what i want to do in my future. I am
studying Health and Social care level 3 at the moment.
Having both work experience helped me decide which suits me best, working at the nursery has
been a pleasure for me and discovered the skills i have when it comes to children.
