, TMN3704 ASSIGNMENT 02: COMPULSORY
1.1 The National Curriculum Statement Grades R-12 serves to equip learners, irrespective of
their socio-economic background, race, gender, physical ability or intellectual ability, with the
knowledge, skills and values necessary for self-fulfilment, and meaningful participation in
society as citizens of a free country.
What are your thoughts on this view? (3)
I think this view is in line with the principles of inclusive and equitable education. It is
important for all learners to have access to the same opportunities and resources, regardless
of their background or abilities. By providing all learners with the necessary knowledge, skills,
and values, we can help ensure that they have the best possible chance for success in their
future endeavours. This approach also promotes a more cohesive and integrated society,
where all citizens have the tools they need to contribute meaningfully.

1.2 One strategy that you could use to connect mathematical ideas is personification. It is a
figure of speech in which human qualities/attributes are given to inanimate (non human)
objects or the representation of an abstract quality/idea in a human form. It is advisable to
use this strategy for Grade 4 learners.
Use Figure 1 to illustrate what personification entails. In other words, personify the shapes or
concepts by assigning them the human action of describing each. Provide four examples. (8)
Example 1:
The circle said, "I am always complete and whole, I have no beginning or end. I am perfect and
symmetrical in my shape."
Example 2:
The triangle declared, "I am strong and stable, with three sides that hold me up. I am always
pointing towards the future, ready to face any challenge."
Example 3:
The square boasted, "I am balanced and precise, with straight lines and right angles. I am the
foundation of stability and order."
Example 4:
The diamond exclaimed, "I am unique and multi-faceted, reflecting different perspectives. I
am a symbol of beauty and strength, shining in all directions."
