ASSIGNMENT 2 2024
, SSL2601 FIRST SEMESTER ASSIGNMENT 02
FIRST SEMESTER: ASSIGNMENT 02
UNIQUE NUMBER: 831543
DUE DATE: 9 APRIL 2024
Take note of the following:
Submission of the first compulsory assignment will give a student admission to the
examination. The marks for this assignment will contribute 10% to the student’s final
marks. The marks a student obtains for the second compulsory assignment, will
contribute another 10% to the student’s final marks. The examination will then contribute
80% towards a student’s final marks.
Consequently, students who only submit the first compulsory assignment will have
admission to the examination but will lose the opportunity of adding the marks to be
obtained for the second compulsory assignment to their final marks. They will
nevertheless be admitted to the examination.
The marks obtained for the assignments will - provided you obtain an examination mark
of at least 40% - count 20% of your final mark. YOU NEED TO OBTAIN A SUBMINIMUM
OF 40% IN THE EXAMINATION BEFORE YOUR YEAR MARK WILL BE TAKEN INTO
ACCOUNT.
ASSIGNMENT QUESTION
Linda is a 59-year-old lady residing in the township of Mnandini in the Eastern Cape
Province. Linda runs a home for abandoned, orphaned, and disabled children in the
township. The Department of Social Development has brought five children to Linda’s
home. The High Court has recommended that these children be taken under the care of
Linda and made a court order to that effect. The ages of the children range between 4
and 16 years. Advise Linda if she can apply for a specific grant in respect of the five
children mentioned above and mention if she will need to submit any documents if she
qualifies for that grant. [10]
