SUS1501 ASSESSMENT 06
NAME: THOBEKILE KWEYAMA
STUDENT NUMBER: 11629681
“Save the Rhino”

STEP 1
1.D, Rhinos will eventually become extinct like Dodo birds and the future
generations will be left with captured images and written sources that
they once existed. According to Wilson (2015: ) “Experience, on the other
hand, stresses practice, or the application of knowledge over a prolonged
period of time, in order to reinforce understanding of subject matter or a
certain task. While further knowledge on a subject or task can be gained
through experience, experience cannot be obtained through instruction.
Experience comes with time, exposure, and practice”, which is the reason
why Rhinos must be kept protected for the next generation to see and
experience, especially children because they relate to the practical and
tangible expect of things.
2.E, Rhinos may have instrumental value as many people use their horns
for minerals, but they have no intrinsic value. I strongly believe that
anything created on earth has a purpose to fulfil, who knows maybe in the
next ten years to come we might discover the significant of its existence
(intrinsic value) yes there are other animals the Spring Boks and Buffalos
which feed on grass, and just maybe these wild animals are not as big as
the Rhino who in this case feeds for both these hence why it is recognised
and entitled as strong. Imagine if they didn’t exist, we would be missing a
member of the big 5.
3.I fit in this conversation because I am part of the human species that is
responsible for both the action of Rhino poaching and conserving and
protecting nature and its species. I also believe animals also are living
beings and they have rights; the difference is that they cannot object or
rather speak for themselves. I believe this is where virtue ethics comes in,
where we should consider things like for instance; if people who are
working are killing the unemployed because they believe they have no
instrumental and they are not contributing to the countries economy
positively and they believe in this way resources will become enough. In
human ethics this is morally wrong, same applies to wildlife animals like
Rhinos.
4. I strongly agree with the statement, as it emphasises a stop to the
Rhino poaching and shows that it’s a concern because of the rate at which
it is happening, it’s enough already, for the reason that if it continues the
Rhinos might soon become extinct species.
