Unit 12:
p1
you need to describe at least three positive and three negative impacts on tourism destinations
Economic
positive
the travel and tourism is know as the biggest industry in the world. This creates many jobs in the
industry. Jobs are created indirectly and also directly within the sector. If a new destination is being
discovered the government will spend more money in improving the destination and hence will
create more jobs for the locals and for their business to start.
When a tourist comes into a country and spend their money in the same country, for example the
tourists pays their fees to the atraction centre the atraction centre will than pay the employees
their fees and later the employees will pay the money for their taxes this is know as multiplier eeect.
This means that they money is circulated within the own country.
Providing more job opportunities will also have a positive impact on the infrastructure of the
country/destinations. The atractions, roads, and other developments can be made in order to
atract more customers into the destinations and help the countries economy since the tourist will
spend money in the country.
Negative
when the tourist send their money in the country/destination it not always goes to the locals but its
than lead to major and successful companies and hotels. For example if there a a hotel in the country
and the same hotel has chains in dieerent other countries they money that the tourists spend is sent
to the hotels overseas for improvement or so. Some destinations also employee people from other
countries and not always are locals. Good are bought in bulk to get a cheaper price from other
countries.
During the peak season there is a lot of demand in popular destinations. The price for living could go
from low to a very high price to live around that destination. This could be a big disadvantage for the
locals since they will hight o pay higher rates for their food and drink or any other items. Charges
may also be put for the locals that they have to donate certain amount in order to build more
facilities for the tourist. They will have to pay money for their services they do not use.
Since the travel and tourism industry is big there are a lot of jobs that are created and also some jobs
are lost or not used by the industry. Development of the tourism creates a loss for jobs such as
fishing, forestry, farming and other local jobs. The locals leave their country and go to other countries
in search of beter job.
An example for MEDC will be Dubai city since the number of tourists have been growing rapidly each
year. For LEWD Kenya such as Nairobi is pull together the money they made from tourism , since
now many tourists want to visit countries and make a positive impact on it, they want to be eco
friendly and also be a member of the responsible tourism and also encouraging others to do so. the
locals of st. Francisco now have to pay in increased price of 8% on everything they have to buy
because of the tourists. Also in Costa Rica have boosted the price for living because of the tourists.
Jamaica also sueer from the leakage because some of the hotel are not situated in the country.
