Explain 3 Common skill coaches use to be successful

Analysing – This is a skill utilised by the coach to enhance and monitor the
individual’s ability, identifying both strength, weakness, improvements and
criticisms. Analysing each player’s performance is a very successful skill; this
is because the coach records and observes the way each player performs
and then gives them feedback. This is a key coaching skill since it enables
the coach to develop a plan/strategy which can have a strong influence of
future ambitions and set goals. This particular skill often involves coaches to
increase their knowledge from their experiences to provide further training
for their athletes. For example, Mourinho, he is a successful coach because
he wants to meet the expectations and demands of the athletes, therefore
coaches spend a long time analysing rather than improvising. This also gives
an indication to the coach on what areas his players are weak and need to
improve on. Analysis is very important because the coach must be able to
demonstrate effective approach, this might mean making appropriate
judgements in the right time. This is a beneficial skill to acknowledge, the
reason behind this is that it allows the coach to assess individual players
and allows the coach to prioritise targets. This is a figure showing the cycle
of analysis and how each step is measured carefully.

Problem solving – This is a skill used by the coach progressively. Usually
problems occur because there could be a little conflicts going on repeatedly
in the team which results in poor leadership. The coach must try to find a
solution to the problem regardless if it is the; players, visitors or even the
managers. The short term effect is that it would cause the instant problem
to have an impact on a training session and it would normally have an
influence on attitude, time management, playing standards and even
personal values. Whereas a long term effect would cause a problem in
playing styles, tactics, strategies, player developments. This is when the
coach must have a good leadership style, this is because it would prove for
himself that he deserves the position where he is applied for and moreover
it would decrease the chances of him getting sacked. The coach would use
his previous knowledge and past experience to resolve any problem solving
matter. For example, coaches would construct a strategy in order to
produce a systematic approach which may include going through the
knowledge of checklist which may include going through physical, mental,
tactical and technical solutions. Coaches like Sir Alex Ferguson, had a code
of conduct where if his players would not follow he either would fine them
or give them extra training sessions where his player would have to catch
up with the level of expectation like everyone else. There could be different
types of problems ranging from; equipment’s, participants, facility and
opponents. It is the coaches’ job to spot when anything goes wrong so
therefore he can solve the issue since he had constructed a plan. Here is
figure showing a cycle monitoring the problem.
