Assignment 1: Skills, Techniques and Tactics Required in Two Team...
Explain the application of the rules and regulations, of two different team sports, in three
different situations for each sport
Football – rules and etiquette
Situations
Illegal positions:
Offside: It’s essential that the officials ensure that they fulfil their responsibility by applying
the correct the law. The referee can penalise the play if a player makes an illegal pass. For
example, if the midfielder makes a pass to a striker to run on to, while the striker was
already in front of the defender, it would be termed as offside rule. This is because there is
an unfair advantage on the defending team since the striker was already ahead of the
defence line and therefore receiving an opportunity to score easily.
Injured player:
If some player went into a reckless challenge with another and he is injured, it would be
recommended that he must get substituted off for someone else. For example, receiving a
concussion, where the player has no ability to play since he doesn’t feel fit enough. This
means that in order to keep the flow of the game the player has to recover and bringing on
a different player can keep the momentum running. Therefore substitutes are available on
the bench for injured players.
Ball out of play (etiquette rule):
This is a rule which shows good sportsmanship. For example, if someone was injured and
remained on the floor for quite a bit of a time, the opposition would normally put the ball
out of play. This is not required but it shows that these etiquette rules are there for the
importance of showing respect and attention of others rather than yourself. The person
who injured the player may even see for himself that whether the player is fine and give him
a handshake to show signs of respect. The injured player’s team would reflect that positive
attitude by blasting the ball back to the opposition, since they were the last team to have
possession of the ball.
Illegal challenge:
This is when the player has no intentions of trying to win a challenge to get the ball by any
means of fair play. For example, if a player has the ball and he is trying to shield it from the
opponent, instead of the opponent putting a foot out winning the ball fairly, the opponent
decides to go in wildly by elbowing the player in the face. This would mean that it would
result in a foul, moreover further punishment being awarded to the player such as (red
card) or alternatively giving a free kick away in a vulnerable area.
, Rules and regulations
Players:
It is essential that all players must wear the correct kit. For example, a player not wearing
studs could mean that he would slip most of the time because he would not acquire grip
whatsoever. It is essential that all players must wear the correct kit. For example, the
referee must check thoroughly if all the players are wearing shin pads for health and safety
reasons, wearing studs to generate grip and no jewellery as it increases the chances of
getting injured.
Officials:
They have an important role which is to make decisions, take in charge of the match
alongside with the two assistant referees. They have the power to enforce the laws of the
game, keep hold of the duration of the match. They also have an important role to decide
whether the match must be postponed, stopped or even called off.
Spectators:
There are also terms and conditions in which all the fans must pay their attention to. For
example, smoking is completely forbidden as it increases the chances of setting an object
alight. The fans are also restricted to bringing in offensive weapons that can very well be
harmful, so there are stewards to examine and observe each of the people’s action.
Facilities:
The club also spends money on the facilities in order to improve the quality standards
they produce. For example, they might again want to improve their condition of stadium
due to the scrutiny by the FA organisation, since it is an important part of the clubs asset.
The reason might be is that the stadium might not be safe enough or they need to provide
a better quality stadium.
Equipment:
This is also another component which the match must require in order to commence. There
needs to be a fully pumped ball. A pair of goal posts which must be 8 feet high and 24 feet
wide. There must be 4 corner flags on the edges which makes a reference guide. The rest of
the players must wear, studs, shin pads whereas a goal keeper may have to wear gloves as
an additional protection in order to prevent the ball going in the net.
Playing surface:
The surface must be a green pitch with dimensions stating it to be between 100 – 130 yards
and the width has to be more than 50 yards but less than 100 yards. The condition of the
pitch must be easy to play in, so in other words if the pitch was to be covered in snow, it
