Malaika Ahmed Unit 1-Government Policies & the Public Services
Assignment 1- Difeeent eee s of Goeeenment
There are many diferent levels of Government in the world, these include the Central Government,
the European Union Government and many more. This assignment will include what each level of
government is made up of and their responsibilites and roles. It will include the history of each type
of government and how they link to the public services whether that be the police force or the
military.
Eueopean Union
This level of government is made up of 28 diferent countries which include; Austria, Bulgaria,
Croata, Cyprus, Czech Republic, eenmark, Estonia, iinland, irance, Germany, Greece, ungary,
Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia,
Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the UK. There are currently 510.6 million people who are covered
under the European Union. The main role of this level of government is to enforce both laws and
regulatons to the members in the EU, these polices and laws are put into place cover diferent
aspects such as educaton, immigraton, labour etc.
The European Union was assembled to end wars between neighbouring countries in the second
world war. A group of individuals came together to create and promote the European project
successfully by putng together all of their ideas in being able to achieve a united and peaceful
union. This group of individuals are known as the 'iounding iathers' of the EU, some of these
individuals include; Konrad Adenauer who was the frst chancellor of the iederal Republic of
Germany, he is a known as a hard-headed democrat. e assisted in changing the face of the German
war as well as the history of the EU. Another founding father of the EU is an ex- army ofcer, Britsh
Prime Minister and a war reporter named Winston Churchill. Winston was the frst to create the
whole 'United States of Europe' project. e had one goal which was to successfully remove
European natonalism and war, he believed that having a united Europe could promote peace and a
war free zone. There are many more founding founders such as Jean Monnet, Alicide ee Gasperi and
Robert Schuman.
There are many insttutons in the EU government which help to make up this ter of government;
The European Council & Ministers- This is the members of the EU who are the government
and head state of these 28 EU states, the most crucial job of the council is to be able to rule
out priorites and politcal directon. This type of insttuton doesn't use legislatons so this
means that it doesn't discuss or use EU laws that are put into place. The main role in this
insttuton is to be able to state issues and come up with solutons to solve them. Those in
the EU council meet together around twice over a 6-month period, they are held in Brussels,
these meetngs that are taken place are chaired by the European Council President eonald
Tusk. As well as these all 28 heads must get together to discuss any problems such as
defence, if all 28 heads agree that there needs to be changes made then they must get each
ministry of defence from each country to discuss defence policies.
