LANGUEDOC(ancienne région historique)
Le Languedoc est une ancienne région du sud-ouest de la France.
Elle tire son nom de la langue qui y était parlé en son sein et qui
l'unifiait, la langue d'oc.
Sa capitale était Toulouse.
Ce territoire correspondait aux départements suivants :
- La Haute-Garonne.
- La Lozère.
- L'Hérault.
- La Haute-Loire.
- L'Ardèche.
- Le Tarn.
- L'Aude.
- Le Gard.
Les Romains ont occupé cette région vers -120 avant J.-C.
Puis, plus tard, ce sont les Wisigoths qui l'ont envahie (413).
Puis, les Francs, l'ont envahie à leur tour (507).
Au Xe siècle, un morcellement eut lieu, permettant la création de
nombreuses principautés féodales (comtés), dont le plus grand fut
le comté de Toulouse.
Ce territoire Cathare, fut réuni à la Couronne de France, par
l'intermédiaire des Croisades Albigeoises (1208-1244).
Mais il garda tout de même ses institutions, jusqu'en 1789 et la
Révolution Française.
Il fut aussi un foyer protestant dès le XVIe siècle.
