Client's perception of the problem: The client’s perception of the problem is the using prescription pain meds and drinking helps him to forget about the trauma he experienced in the war, therefore keeping him in a calm state. Client feels that he cannot function without self- medicating with meds and liquor. Client believes that without his medication he cannot work, bea father, or go to work. Client believes he relives the night in the war when his platoon was ambushed and most of his platoon was killed. Having lapsed on is meds for two weeks, client believed he could manage his symptoms. However, client felt he has to use more than his daily dosage and drink liquor to manage life. Client believes drinking and taking pills regularly will help him maintain fatherhood, employment, and marriage.
