- Ensure dental professionals comply with rules to protect the public health and safety
- Examine licensure/registrations
- Organize board meetings
Who can practice dentistry? - ANSA person may not practice or offer to practice dentistry or
dental surgery or represent that the person practices dentistry unless the person holds a
license by the board
A person DOES NOT practice dentistry if the person is a- - ANS- faculty member of a
reputable dental or dental hygiene school
- Student of a reputable dental school who performs operations without pay or performs
laboratory work
- Physician licensed in the state, who does not represent that he/she is practicing dentistry
- dental hygienist who practices dental hygiene in strict conformity with the state law
- a dental assistant who performs duties permitted under the dental practice act
Visual dental inspections "screenings" - ANS- Dental inspections (exam) can be made by a
health care worker
- Can be performed by a dental assistant, teacher, or school nurse
