Neo, one of the children in your class, does not look healthy. His stomach
looks bloated, and his skin looks dry and scaly. Apart from often falling sick
and skipping school, Neo seems to be tired most of the time and his teeth are
decayed. On following up on Neo’s family background, you discover that he
comes from a poor family and that his parents are unemployed.
1.1 In your own words, explain what the cause of Neo’s condition might be
and what factors could be contributing to the condition. (4)
1.2 Identify five types of food, giving examples of each, that Neo will need for
growing and for staying healthy. (10)
1.3 Discuss how Neo’s emotions and intellect are likely to have been affected
by his current state. (10)
1.4 Obesity in children is becoming a health problem. Discuss three major
causes of obesity in children and suggest ways of dealing with them. (10)
1.5 Give one function of minerals in the body. (1)
